Bernadette Calonego was born in Stans, Switzerland. She now resides and works as a freelance foreign correspondent<\/a> and a novelist near Vancouver, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has a diploma from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) where she focussed on modern languages. Her career has included working as a reporter\/editor for Reuters newsagency in Zurich. From  1990 to 2000, she was the foreign correspondent for \u201cS\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung\u201d and \u201cDer Standard\u201d , reporting from Switzerland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has written regularly for newspapers like \u201cS\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung\u201d in Munich, \u201cDer Standard\u201d in Vienna, Austria, \u201cTages-Anzeiger\u201d and \u201cFinanz und Wirtschaft\u201d in Zurich, Switzerland, and a range of other important German language newspapers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernadette Calonego`s stories have been published in magazines like GEO, Vogue, SZ-Magazin, natur + kosmos, foto magazin, B\u00f6rse Online, EMMA, abenteuer + reisen, H\u00e4user and in newspapers such as Neue Z\u00fcrcher Zeitung and Weltwoche. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October 2005, her first book<\/strong> Nutze deine Feinde<\/em> (Make use of your enemies) was published by Bloomsbury Berlin Verlag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 2007, her second book<\/strong> Unter dunklen Wassern<\/em> (Under dark waters) was also published by Bloomsbury Berlin Verlag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November 2011, her third book<\/strong> Oh, wie sch\u00f6n ist Kanada<\/em>!<\/em> Leben unterm Ahornblatt <\/strong>(O, how beautiful is Canada! Life under the Maple Leaf) was published by Ullstein Verlag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2012, The Zurich Conspiracy<\/strong> was published by AmazonCrossing (you can read an excerpt on the page \u201cBooks\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 2015, the mystery novel Under Dark Waters<\/strong>, also by AmazonCrossing, was launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernadette Calonego`s fourth book, was published in July 2015, first in German as Die Bucht des Schweigens <\/strong>and then in English as Stormy Cove <\/strong>in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The English version of the book Die Fremde auf dem Eis<\/strong> was published in August 2018 as The Stranger on the Ice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2017, the German mystery novel Die letzte Erkenntnis<\/strong> was launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was followed by M\u00f6rderischer Morgen<\/strong> in 2019 (English title Murderous Morning<\/strong>, 2020).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, Eisiger Kerker<\/strong> came out (translated as Cries from the Cold<\/strong>), and in 2021, Kalte Klippen<\/strong>, (translated as A Dark Chill<\/strong>). In the same year, Grabesgrauen<\/strong> was launched. All three books are part of the Detective Calista Gates series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bernadette Calonego is working on a new murder mystery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
