You haven’t heard from me in while because I am on a three week road trip through four Canadian provinces: Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador. Because Canada is such a big country, this means huge distances and a lot of driving. I always try to stop often, take lots of pictures and hike whenever I can (and when it is safe to do so alone).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes I talk to local people and they ask me why I’m traveling on my own. Well, it is not always easy to find a travel companion. My man is fishing and doesn`t have the luxury to go on a holiday. The truth is: I don`t mind traveling alone. As a journalist, I often had to and I got used to it. I also enjoy being free and spontaneous without having to ask somebody else where the journey is going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My trip includes four ferry rides. I always seem to travel where one needs a ferry to cross a body of water. From Labrador to Quebec, my car was put into a ship container because there is no road on this isolated stretch of the coast. This was something new for me and I enjoyed visiting small coastal communities when the ferry stopped there and brought them all kinds of goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow, I’m heading home, a distance which will take me four days and another ferry. I think the highlights of my trip were the monoliths on the islands of the Mingan archipelago in northern Quebec and the visit of Harrington Harbour, a tiny, isolated fishing community. I am returning with so many awesome impressions for which I am really thankful. I also have to thank the mechanic in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, for fixing my car’s wheel bearing in an hour. I was so relieved not to hear that scary loud noise anymore while driving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
