In case you wonder how I spend a warm summer day in northern Newfoundland, I can give you some impressions:<\/p>\n\n\n

As the North Atlantic is way too cold for a swim, even with a wet suit, I do the next best thing: When the tide is low, I stroll out into the bay in my rubber boots in order to feel the water and the bottom of the ocean. I wish I had waders because I always get splashed but it doesn’t spoil my fun.<\/p>\n\n\n

I often find interesting things or animals, like these mini squids that squirt me in the face when I touch them. Some locals put them in the freezer because even after a year, they are good to eat. <\/p>\n\n\n

Others pick mussels and then clean them, like these two fishermen here. At night, there is a “boil up”: the mussels are boiled in a huge pot and the neighbours are invited. Everybody sits around the fire and has a good time.<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year was a great iceberg year. My fisherman took me out in his boat and I got some really awesome pictures. Next come the humpback whales.<\/p>\n\n\n
