My visits to Switzerland are always intense and very emotional, because it is my first home country where I have lived for a long time before emigrating to Canada. Time with family and friends is very precious, every moment I spend with them, I am aware that we will be separated again by thousands of kilometres and an ocean afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the price you pay when you move overseas to another country. The connection to Switzerland and to the people there who are close is very important to me. My roots are in this country and I still find it impressive and endearing.<\/p>\n\n\n

This time I experienced an April that had it all: warm and mostly sunny and not at all typical April weather. I enjoyed many hikes and reveled in beautiful landscapes. I also ate delicious meals, many of which reminded me of my childhood.<\/p>\n\n\n

I still didn’t make it to the Matterhorn, but that will come. I experienced the Bernese Alps though, Lake Lucerne, my favorite city Zurich (my niece, who studies there, showed me new corners), my second favorite city Fribourg (where I studied), the Jura region, Saint Gallen and Central Switzerland – it was fantastic.<\/p>\n\n\n

When I return to Canada, I am always quite exhausted because I have experienced so much in a short period. But the memories of the encounters, conversations, the connection to earlier times, the generosity of the people and the many positive impressions remain in me for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
